If you love a good ghost story, read or listen to On the Day I Died: Stories From the Grave by Candace Fleming. On a dark night, 16-year-old Mike is driving home when he sees a girl walking along the side of the road. He gives her a ride home, only to find out a chilling secret that leads him to one of the eeriest nights of his life.
Mike spends the night in a graveyard listening to the stories of teens who died early deaths. Going back to the 1800’s and all the way up until the present, the teens in these stories lived (and died) in real Chicago locations. With everything from mobsters to school fires to the Chicago World’s Fair, these tales will take you on a terrifying trip through time.
The book is great, but the audiobook is even better, because each story is read by a different narrator, which makes these stories seem all the more real. As a side note, if you’re brave, stop by the Reference Desk to read a binder full of true ghost stories that took place at the Warren-Newport Public Library!
