Linger by Maggie Stiefvater

I have been waiting to read this ever since I read Shiver (the first in this anticipated trilogy) so many moons ago.  Waiting, and wondering how the next installment would unfold.

I read a couple of the early reviews, and talked to people who’d gotten the book before me.  The reviews were somewhat mixed.  Some thought that this story was confusing (and a little disappointing) because Stiefvater didn’t focus as much on Grace and Sam.  Where Shiver was primarily their story, Linger introduces Cole – a new werewolf – and gives us a little more about Isabel (sister to Jack from Shiver).

At first, I grudgingly agreed with the complaints.  Who is this Cole St. Clair, and why should I care?  I want more Sam and Grace, not less!!  Plus, Isabel?  She’s not the most likeable character.

However…I stuck with it, and boy am I happy that I did.

A BIG momentous thing happens (no, I can’t tell you what it is…read the book), and thing are never the same for Sam, Grace or anyone else in the story.  It’s at this same point, by the way, when the story gets good.  You are not allowed to stop reading this book until you get to that point.  Not allowed.

So, if you haven’t yet started on this lovely werewolf trilogy, do it now.   I can’t wait until the final chapter.  Many, many changes are coming.  Where will Sam and Grace end up – and in what form?
