NPM 2010 – Pat Mora

admin    April 8, 2010

Pat Mora is one of my favorite modern poets.  Her work reflects her bilingual background and is always fresh and exciting.

Her latest poetry collection is Dizzy in Your Eyes: Poems About Love.  In Dizzy, Mora utilizes many traditional poetic forms like a villanelle called “Our Private Rhyme” or a trecet called “Revenge x 3.”  My favorite though is a triolet, an eight-line fixed form poem, called “Lonely Day”

I saw your dress sway
with the breeze
at the end of a lonely day.
I saw your dress sway,
drying on a hanger, play,
dance with summer ease.
Softly, I saw your dress sway
and wished I were the breeze.
