Another edition of our library newsletter, the Inside Angle, is out! We have a ton of great programs lined up for the next three months. Browse our event calendar or the list below to sign up for some awesome events!

College and Career Prep (Grades 9-12):

  • Land Your First Job – Monday, March 7
    • Understand the job process and prepare for the responsibility of a summer or seasonal position. Topics that will be covered are as follows: the application process, what a resume should consist of, how to dress for an interview, how actions and attitude can affect your job search and what the first day on a job may consist of. Presented by The Workforce Development Youth Department of the Job Center of Lake County. REGISTER.
  • College Scholarship Essay Workshop – Saturday, April 2
    • Working on essays for college scholarships? Not sure where to start or how to improve what you already have? Come to the free College Scholarship Essay Workshop, run by Huntington Learning Center of Grayslake. There will be a short presentation followed by time for students to work while receiving individualized guidance by knowledgeable teachers. REGISTER.
  • Are You Ready for College Entrance Exams? – Sunday, April 3
    • A practice test is crucial to ward off those Test Day jitters and to predict how you may score on the “real thing.” Don’t be surprised! Come experience firsthand what Test Day will be like. A representative from Sylvan will provide a proctored practice ACT exam and return scores with analyzed results. Helpful ACT strategies, quick tips and a healthy snack will be provided! Remember to bring #2 sharpened pencils (no mechanical pencils) and an approved calculator: www.actstudent.org/faq/answers/calculator.html REGISTER.
  • Finals Cafe – Dates TBD (mid-May, Tuesday & Wednesday)
    • High school students can spread out and cram for finals in our large meeting room, a great place for study groups to get together. Enjoy free snacks and drinks. Exact dates to be announced based on Warren Township High School final exam schedule. NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

  • Overcoming Job Search Fears – Thursday, March 3, 10am
    • Learn how to get past your job search fears by understanding the building blocks of your career management strategy. Presented by the Job Center of Lake County. REGISTER
  • Put Your Best Foot Forward: Interviewing Skills – Thursday, May 12, 10am
    • Do you know how to discuss your skills and work history with any employer? Learn how to ace an employment interview. Presented by the Job Center of Lake County. REGISTER.
