Where She Went & Slam

I just finished reading two great books. One was Where She Went by Gayle Forman. It is the sequel to If I Stay. While If I Stay was told by Mia, before, during, and after being involved in a devastating car accident, this one is told from her boyfriend Adam’s point of view several years later. The other novel was Slam by Nick Hornby. This story is told by a teenage boy who lives in England with his divorced mother who gave birth to him when she was 16 years old. Sam’s biggest fear in life comes to pass when he finds himself in the same position his parents were in when they were teenagers, young and expecting a child.

Sam loves skate boarding and his hero is Tony Hawk. Throughout the book he tells his troubles to Hawk’s poster and in his mind Hawk answers with phrases that Sam read in Tony’s autobiography. Both books were really well written and entertaining. However, Slam seemed to me to take me inside a teenage boy’s head while Where She Went, which was written by a woman felt more like chic lit.
