“If only I’d charged my mobile phone
I could have texted my parents there and then:
Off 2 Hell with teacher Aesop. Not alone.”
The Young Inferno, written by John Agard with art by Satoshi Kitamura, follows a teen hoodie hero as he takes a wild ride through the Nine Circles of Hell with Aesop, the fable guy, for a guide. They encounter the dead, lost souls, a crooning Frankenstein and some punk rock Furies. This is an awesome new graphic novel, told in verse with artwork as dark and twisted as Hell itself.
“I should have done like Hansel and Gretel –
dropped a trail of stones to mark my way.
But get real, man, we’re talking about Hell.”
